Private Equity Investor | Former Co-President, Wellspring Capital Management (now Revelar Capital)

Alexander (“Alex”) Carles is an accomplished private equity professional with a broad background in finance and institutional investing, culminating in his role as Co-President of Wellspring Capital Management. Alex retired from Wellspring in October 2025 after 24 years at the firm, including 18 years as Partner and a member of the Investment Committee.

Wellspring Capital Management (now Revelar Capital) is a New York–based middle-market private equity firm founded in 1995. The firm specialized in acquiring controlling stakes in companies with enterprise values of $150–$500mm across the healthcare, business services, consumer, and light industrial sectors. During Alex’s tenure, Wellspring raised six institutional private equity funds and a multi-asset continuation vehicle totaling more than $5.5bn in aggregate commitments. Fund performance consistently exceeded middle-market benchmarks and Alex co-managed the raise of Wellspring Capital Partners VI, L.P. a $1.45bn vehicle. Alex also constructed the Wellspring Capital Partners VI Continuation Fund which was ~$1.0bn in aggregate.

Alex led numerous high-profile acquisitions and divestitures, overseeing more than $2.0bn of invested equity capital and generating gross realized returns in excess of 30%. He co-founded Wellspring’s healthcare vertical in 2012 and prior to that was instrumental in expanding the firm’s presence in the business services sector.

His portfolio of investments encompassed a wide range of companies, including Help at Home, Pentec Health, Rayus Radiology (fka Center for Diagnostic Imaging), Caring Brands International, Great Lakes Caring, National Seating & Mobility, Performance Food Group, Stripes Holdings, Ascend Transportation Group, Cadence Group, Vistar Corporation, United Sporting Companies, Crosman Corporation, Tube City IMS, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants and American Coin Merchandising.

Currently, Alex manages 6 West Holdings which operates as a multi-family office, with access to a spectrum of alternative asset classes including direct private equity investments, private equity secondary transactions, private credit, real estate and private equity LP commitments. The group also organizes outside capital for select ventures aligned with its investment strategy.

Alex began his career at Lehman Brothers in the capital markets division, specializing in high-yield research for proprietary trading. He later joined Whitney & Company, a global alternative asset manager with over $5 billion under management, where he was a senior associate in the private equity buyout group.

Alex earned a degree in economics with honors from The College of William & Mary and completed the General Course at the London School of Economics.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Alex is deeply engaged in philanthropic initiatives focused on combating youth hunger, improving inner-city education, and supporting veterans’ causes. Alex currently sits on the board of the Helena Devereaux Foundation.

James Schwab

James Schwab

Strategic Advisor and Operator | M&A and Business Building

James is a seasoned strategic advisor and operator with over 30 years of experience in M&A and building businesses. He most recently served as Senior Advisor and Lead Mentor for the Ray and Barbara Dalio family office. Mr. Schwab was previously a Senior Partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison where he served as Global Chair of the firm’s Media and Entertainment practice group. Mr. Schwab advised clients such as Sony, Time Warner, and Viacom on major music, film, cable and digital media transactions. He also served as counsel to David Geffen in the formation of DreamWorks; advised Discovery Communications on its joint ventures with Oprah Winfrey and with Hasbro; advised the creative forces behind South Park and Rockstar Games; and served as lead counsel on the sale of the Washington Redskins NFL franchise. He also advised a broad range of clients in transactions outside of the media industry, including KPS, OakHill, Wellspring, Apollo, and many more.

Throughout his career, Mr. Schwab held several senior executive roles in the media industry, including as Vice President and a member of the Chairman’s Office at Time Warner, Senior Vice President of NBC - Digital Media Strategy and Business Development, and President of VICE Media. He is also a member of the advisory board of Blackbird Presents, a live event and media company that produces the Outlaw Music Festival.

Mr. Schwab currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of The Devereux Foundation, Chair of its External Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of its Family Advisory Board; is a co-founder of Autism Speaks; and previously served on the Duke University Institute for Brain Science Advisory Board.

Mr. Schwab is a graduate of Duke University (magna cum laude, Economics, 1984) and the New York University School of Law (1987).
